Barcelona’s administration has changed its stance on the abuse they received from Atletico Madrid, as the Catalan club decided to continue negotiations over a deal for Argentina star Julian Alvarez.
Atletico Madrid have made Barcelona clear about their stance on the transfer of Julián Alvarez in a series of social media posts in what they described as an ironic escalation amid tensions between the two clubs.
The Madrid club issued a statement that says: “We have been subjected to a smear campaign in recent months, but it certainly wouldn’t occur to me to employ a vice-chairman of referees or seek political patronage to sign players up.”
Atlético recently made a series of satirical posts about the possibility of signing Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Rafinha, accompanied by AI-generated images showing the trio wearing a red and white shirt, clearly referencing the rivalry between the two clubs.
Lavanguardia newspaper revealed that Barcelona carefully analyzed the content of these messages over the weekend and discussed the possibility of taking legal action against them, considering that they have a potential legal basis, especially in relation to the violation of the image rights of its players.
He noted that the Catalan club ultimately decided not to file a formal complaint for fear of undermining ongoing strategic talks between the two sides and risking its sporting interests at this sensitive stage.
However, Barcelona have confirmed that they will provide full support to any of their players should they decide to take individual legal action over possible infringement of their image rights.

The interim president of “Barcelona” Rafael Juste, in turn, commented on the statements given to TV3, saying: “Actually, I thought those comments were very inappropriate, but we have to focus on what we are doing as a club.”
He continued, “Good morals come first, and we must lead by example, from the president to the last member of the board of directors.
“However, this does not change our sports policy in any way,” Yusti added. “Deco is very clear about his plans and will stick to them.”
The development comes as Barcelona look to maintain stability in their relationship with rival clubs, especially as talks continue over potential deals that could include players from Atletico Madrid.
