A doorbell camera helps neighbors pull a woman, 87, from the fire.

The couple had to wake up the day in her bed.

“She looked at me like I was going to rob her or something, but I got her out of bed,” Smart said.

“Pav was next to me and we put her down slowly, but in time.”

The group said the fire brought them together.

Smart said: “These people I only saw on the street, I don’t really know them. Now we say hello more than ever.

“And if it’s my grandfather or my parents, I know someone will do it for me.”

“Those guys saved my mom’s life without question,” Wright said.

“My mother only got two minutes at most.

“When people are amazing, people who don’t know each other easily, the world isn’t all bad.

“I beg King Charles to appoint me my mother’s lovely neighbors—that’s what I want. They’re wonderful.”

A spokesman for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Central and Wigston fire stations attended within seven minutes of the initial call to tackle the blaze.

“It turned out to be a coincidence.

“Although we recognize that the neighbors took the best intentions to save the occupants, we urge the public not to enter burning buildings for any reason.”

“Smoke inhalation can quickly cause confusion, injury and incapacitation.”
