In February 2004, Arsenal fans were living on top of the world. Their Unbreakable side, led by Thierry Henry, were just months away from finishing the 2003-04 Premier League season unbeaten with 90 points.
Manager Arsene Wenger has been charming and the club’s coffers look full. The future certainly looked golden to Gunners fans at the time, and it was then that a decision was made that changed the course of the club forever; Construction work on the Emirates Stadium began after the completion of the project’s financing plan and the foundation stone was laid in August 2005.
Today, Arsenal ended their long fast to win the league after a 22-year absence thanks to a slip-up by direct rivals Manchester City under a tenacious Pep Guardiola. But between the moments of celebrating the last title at the (old) Highbury Stadium and the Emirates 2026, there is a long history where the characteristics of everything have changed, which raises a question that imposes itself strongly:
