The incident draws renewed scrutiny from DHS and ICE.
In the year On July 7, an ICE officer shot and killed 52-year-old construction worker Lorenzo Salgado Araujo while driving to a construction site in Houston.
Federal officials later admitted the Mexican man was not the intended target of the enforcement operation, but said he tried to impersonate an ICE agent.
Mullin took over the helm of DHS in March, replacing Christie Noem after he was fired by US President Donald Trump.
Noem’s tenure saw the fatal shootings of two protesters, Alex Pretty and Renee Goode, both US citizens by immigration officers.
The deaths of Pretty and Good come after the Trump administration announced increased immigration enforcement in Minnesota and other states.
Federal officials launched a similar campaign in Maine in January, dubbed Operation Catch of the Day.
Civil rights groups filed lawsuits condemning the tactics used by federal agents.
