A child has died in a lorry collision in Chipping Ongar, Essex

Police are appealing for witnesses after a boy who was hit by a truck died in hospital.

The collision happened in Epping Road, Chipping Ongar, Essex, at around 16:40 BST on Friday.

Officers arrested the 48-year-old lorry driver from Derbyshire at the scene in connection with his death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on bail until September while the investigation continues.

“The child suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he sadly died,” a police spokesman said.

Specialist officers have been supporting the family of the boy, whose age has not been released.

The EPP road linking Chipping Ongar with North Weald Bassett was closed following the incident.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for “witnesses in the area and anyone who may have been driving at the time who recorded dash cam footage to find them,” the spokesman added.
