Commenting on the incident, Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder said that several houses and buildings adjacent to the railway were badly damaged. The explosion caused the hulls of some trains to collapse and catch fire.

According to local media reports, a state of emergency has been declared in government hospitals in Quetta, and doctors and other medical staff have been ordered to remain on duty.

Videos shared online showed burning cars and trains lying on their sides, sending black smoke into the sky.

Hyder said Pakistan has faced several protests by separatist groups in recent months. The attacks have escalated and have also targeted Chinese workers for opposing Beijing’s construction projects in Balochistan, he said. Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, China’s Xinjiang province has been linked to Pakistan’s Gwadar port.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack in a tweet on X.

“Such terrorism cannot weaken the spirit of the people of Pakistan. We remain determined to end terrorism in various ways,” he said.
