Defender William Saliba will not need surgery for a World Cup injury, his club says.

“Extensive tests have confirmed that surgery is not recommended, but William must now begin a well-managed recovery programme.

“Everyone is focused on helping William to make sure he gets back to health as soon as possible.”

Saliba made 50 appearances in all competitions for the North London club last season for the Gunners he finished waiting for 22 years to win the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final.

Arsenal should start defending their Premier League crown at home against promoted Coventry City on August 21.
