The Portuguese legend took the historic throne, which survived the World Cup 15 times.
Al-Nasr captain Cristiano Ronaldo became Portugal’s all-time top scorer in the World Cup after scoring a goal against Uzbekistan.
Today, Tuesday, the Portuguese national team met its Uzbekistan counterpart in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup at the Houston Stadium.
In the sixth minute of the match, Ronaldo scored Portugal’s first goal against Uzbekistan after he brilliantly converted Joao Cancelo’s pass.
The goal is the Madeira Rocket’s first in the current World Cup campaign, after failing to score in a 1-1 draw with DR Congo in the first round of the group stage.
However, the goal was the Portuguese star’s 9th goal in World Cup history in his sixth appearance at the World Cup, after he scored 8 goals in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022.
Ronaldo scored against Iran in 2006, North Korea in 2010, Ghana in 2014 and the same African team in 2022, and he scored 4 more goals in the 2018 World Cup, including a hat-trick against Spain and a goal against Morocco.
With his 9th goal against Uzbekistan, Ronaldo became Portugal’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup with 9 goals, equaling legend Eusebio.
Eusebio has held this historic position for 60 years, particularly since the 1966 World Cup, when he scored nine goals in one game to lead Portugal to third place, his all-time best.
