“This is the healthiest dressing room I’ve ever had,” wasn’t just a passing remark from former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, but rather an accurate diagnosis of an ego-less team that relies on human interaction as the key to its ongoing winning cycle.
But exactly 601 days passed between that remark of the Italian coach and the bloody confrontation between Federico Valverde and Aurelien Chuamin.
During this period, the Royals dressing room witnessed the gradual disintegration of a seemingly solid structure and a collapse rarely seen in Royals history.

During that period, Real Madrid said goodbye to Toni Kroos, Nacho Fernandez and Joselu in the summer of 2024, and a year later, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez, the last icons of the dressing room to ensure order, hierarchy and discipline.
This latest departure wasn’t just a natural change in the squad, but rather it was like the pillars holding up the ceiling of internal stability were removed, leaving a fragile structure whose cracks soon began to appear.

In an attempt to contain the worsening situation, Real Madrid tried two diametrically opposed approaches to managing the dressing room, the first under Xabi Alonso, who arrived at the Bernabeu with the aim of imposing strict discipline to correct what they expected to be a complicated legacy. He raised the level of rigour, particularly at a tactical level, but lost control of several first-class players and went out the back door in January.
Alvaro Arbeloa came with a completely different approach, more conciliatory and flexible. His arrival restored some influence to elements of the “victory camp”, but that truce was only a short-term illusion. That was the beginning of the real end.
Spanish newspaper Marca has tracked the exact timeline of the deep internal crisis, characterized by constant tension between players and coaching staff, power struggles and a complete breakdown of discipline.

On January 13, the first and most obvious warning came just one day after Xabi Alonso was sacked.
“I didn’t know that I came to train kindergarten.” Alonso’s cries of frustration in training after El Clasico, the scowls, the lack of tension in the performance and the sarcastic comments from a group of players who refused to maintain the required level of discipline.
It was a watershed, a point of no return that announced the end of the Spanish coach’s project at the Bernabeu before it was finished.

Last February, a month after Arbeloa took over, there was another incident of extreme tension between the new manager and team captain Daniel Carvajal, when he sat on the bench against Valencia at Mestalla.
The photos taken next to Pintos at the end of the game, with Carvajal showing signs of anger, reflected a state of deep dissatisfaction that went beyond a simple technical decision. What was supposed to ease the tension only deepened the division.
Carvajal continued to lose out on a starting spot as he struggled to qualify for the World Cup, but his latest injury has made the decision. he will only be able to return for the last game of the season. Without a contract extension, without a World Cup and perhaps without the farewell his career deserved, his end began to take shape from that clash.

March After weeks of relative calm backed by positive results, a new flashpoint of conflict emerged following the “silent disappearance” of Spanish defender Asensio.
Having been benched in the crucial Champions League game against Manchester City, the nervous player was accompanied by the team doctor to Arbeloa’s office to inform him of the muscle soreness that would keep him out of action against Elche.
The coach believed that the player was trying to avoid the match and the tension increased when he had to inform Antonio Rudiger that he would not get the planned rest.
While Arbeloa awaited a public apology in front of the group, Asensio avoided any explanation.
“Does anyone have anything to say?” The coach asked in front of the entire dressing room. The defender was completely silent.
Asensio only responded when press reports began linking his frequent absences to nightlife. Only then did he demand an apology from his teammates, especially Rudiger, who was directly affected by the situation.

April. A new domestic fire broke out last week. “I asked the coach not to have a relationship.” Dani Ceballos himself made a shocking statement after leaving Arbeloa’s office.
The management of the club was immediately informed about the new conflict, and there was no attempt by either party to ease the tension or to beautify what happened.
After a short time, Real Madrid officially confirmed that the player was left out of the roster for the next match “due to a technical decision”.
Ceballos’ departure has become irreversible, and this will be his last season in the white shirt.

Last Wednesday, two days before the big explosion, a serious warning incident took place. It started with a simple gameplay shot during training.
Federico Valverde and Aurelien Chuamini got into a direct confrontation, exchanged pushes, and a heated argument took place between them, which spread to the dressing room after the training session.
The incident quickly spread through the corridors of the Valdebebas training center and revealed a disturbing reality: there are players on the team who have almost no relationship with each other, but show a silent animosity.
The club tried to play down the matter publicly, dismissing it as normal contact during a training session. But the truth, as later events proved, was completely different.

The next day, everything blew up. Valverde refused to shake Chuamini’s hand at the start of training, and the training started in a completely hostile atmosphere. Tensions quickly escalated and culminated in a heated altercation in the locker room.
The Uruguayan player received stitches in his head after suffering a traumatic brain injury in the hospital. Later in the day, Real Madrid released an official statement announcing the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the two players, before imposing an unprecedented fine of half a million euros on each of them.
