Important minutes can separate our lives into “after” and “after.” For me, one such example is life before I put a bidet in my house, and then every moment that has come. Now I can’t imagine life without a bidet toilet seat, and I lament the lack of innovation on every business trip I go on or any other reason that keeps me from leaving my bathroom. (When you put a bidet in the guest bathroom at your mother-in-law’s house, you know something has changed.) These tools have changed my life, and I’m getting better.
Even bidets date back to that time France in the 18th centuryand bidet seat combinations have been famous for decades in Japanthe cartoon may be new to many Americans. However, bidets are becoming more and more popular stateside as more and more people realize that our bathroom habits are becoming more and more complicated. Pressurized bidet water is great for just washing yourself over and over with a paper towel.
It was my honor—deeply—to try out the latest in the bidet industry, including a simple toilet seat accessory and the latest technology for every toilet. Call it a modern phenomenon, call it “buttmaxxing” – whatever you want to call it, count me out (especially if the bidet in question includes luxury features such as a heated seat and the right adjustment).

For functionality, simplicity, and efficiency, the Brondell Swash 1400 is excellent, offering everything a bidet enthusiast could want, and at an attractive price, no less.
I found the Swash to do its job well: heated seat, adjustable nozzle, constant but unobtrusive flow, and a good deodorizing system. The design is simple and accessible, and the integrated controller is easy to use from the get-go. You can use two users, which is good for those who like it more. Swash drying is simple and effective.
To be clear, the Swash is so good and interesting that after trying out these types of bidets, it’s the one I’ve installed for my own use.
The S7A is the most popular model from Toto, a Japanese bidet manufacturer that has developed a bidet seat attachment. You could mistake the S7A for a regular toilet – until the lid lifts up and illuminates the night light, when the device detects your presence in the bathroom.
The controls work similarly to Toto’s other washlets, with buttons to adjust the position, power, and angle of the sprayer. There is also a spray button. The remote, 4-inch remote allows preprogramming for up to four people. If there is any weakness on the S7A-and this bidet is almost perfect-it is that the dryer seems to be a little weaker than the previous model (S550e), probably due to the inconsistency of the design created by shaving the floor.
