30-hour trip. Mendy returns to the Senegal team at the World Cup

Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is set to return to his country’s national team camp for the 2026 World Cup after a quick trip to Saudi Arabia.

Mendy had traveled to Jeddah to undergo a thorough medical under the supervision of his Saudi club Al-Ahly.

Ben Jacobs, a reliable journalist, noted via his website X account that “Edouard Mendy underwent a 30-hour round trip after he traveled to Saudi Arabia to assess his knee injury.”

He continued: “The goalkeeper will return to the camp of the Senegal national team tomorrow, Tuesday, preparing for the match against Belgium in the 32nd round.”

He noted: “Al-Ahly wanted to assess the injury, while Mendy expressed his delight at returning to Saudi Arabia. He has also requested immediate travel so that he can return in time to watch his country’s match against Belgium.”

He concluded. “Mendy still hopes to return to play with Senegal if the team manages to qualify for the next round, provided the Senegalese federation re-evaluates his fitness upon his return.”
