The Qatari team entered the second round of the second group of the tournament against Canada in an unprecedented scenario in the history of the World Cup.
Qatar suffered a 6-0 defeat in the early hours of Friday, confounding their position in the group as they head into their final match against Bosnia and Herzegovina with a point from their opening-round draw with Switzerland, a must win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the round of 32 alive.
Al-Anabi received successive blows in the game. Apart from conceding six goals, including a friendly fire goal from Mohamed Al-Mana, they ended the match with nine men in the 53rd minute after Hamam Al-Amin and Issam Madibo were sent off.
According to Mr. Ship’s statistics, Qatar became the first team in history to have two players sent off and concede an own goal in one World Cup match.
In turn, the Opta network noted that the Qatar team is the first Asian team to receive two red cards in a World Cup match.
Annaby also became the third team to receive two red cards in the first hour of a World Cup match since records were collected in 1966.
