Wayne Rooney is a man of his word.
Rewind the clock to the last 16 of the World Cup, when the former England striker vowed to row down the Mersein if Norway beat Brazil.
Norway did exactly that. The five-time winner won 2-1 So the BBC Sports pundit confirmed live on air that Rooney would face the test in America.
He and fellow researchers Joe Hart and Micah Richards replaced their microphones with oars and took them up the Hudson River in New York.
“I loved it,” Rooney said. “The fans were brilliant. So we did it out of respect for the fans.”
The Norwegian fans’ Viking deal became a sensation at the World Cup and even Norwegian striker Erling Haaland wanted to see Rooney in action.
“I expect you’re going out for a rowing trip,” he said.
Norway lost to England in the quarter-finals.
Rooney, Hart and Richards will return to dry land alongside Gabby Logan in Sunday’s World Cup final (20:00 BST), which will be available to watch live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Third-placed England play France at 22:00 on Saturday, live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
