2026 World Cup: John McGinn and Steve Clarke mistakes Scotland made against Brazil

First, Scott McKenna, Bournemouth striker Ryan, got hold of the ball and Vinicius Junior headed past Angus Gunn to score.

Gunn and full-back Nathan Patterson were caught under Bruno Gumares’ cross before the break, with Vinicius Junior telling him and Brazil’s second.

And Manchester United’s Mateusz Cunha made it three after the break in a night that saw the Scots hustle and bustle but ultimately prevail.

“We conceded poor goals at good times against a team that can punish you with quality,” McGinn told BBC Sport. “We had a few chances but now we have to wait.

“The lads are hurt, we’ve dropped in quality but we gave it everything. The lads are empty now. It’s unlikely (that we’ll qualify) but we’ll wait and see.

“It’s a bit raw at the moment but we appreciate the support of the fans, we know it’s difficult to be there. We hope the journey is not over and if we have to go again we will go again.”
