England midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered a “very bad” wrist injury during his side’s dramatic World Cup last-16 win over Mexico, manager Thomas Tuchel said.
Following England’s 3-2 win, Henderson appeared to land awkwardly after falling from the stands and was seen leaving the pitch on a stretcher.
The 36-year-old Brentford midfielder came on just six minutes late in England’s World Cup Group L win over Panama.
“Jordan (Henderson) fell and injured his wrist,” England manager Thomas Tuchel told BBC One after Monday’s win.
“It’s a serious injury and not having Jordan with us right now doesn’t fit the night. The doctor told me he’s going to be in the hospital.”
England’s next game is the quarter-final against Norway on Saturday at 22:00 BST, which you can watch live on BBC Radio 5 and on the BBC Sport website and app.
Henderson is likely to join team-mate Reece James, who suffered an injury in England’s opener.
Jarrell Quansah will be absent after receiving a straight red card in England’s win over Mexico in Mexico City.
