2026 World Cup: England defender Mark Guhi struggles with hamstring injury

England defender Mark Guhi is nursing a minor hamstring injury and could miss the World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

Guhi complained of a muscle issue following England’s win over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.

It was initially hoped that the defender had suffered a muscle strain and would be fit for Saturday’s game against Norway.

But the Manchester City centre-back is understood to have a hamstring problem.

Now it remains to be seen whether Guhi will be able to train with the team on Friday.

If he can’t, his inclusion against Norway will be in serious doubt.

The issue is not seen as serious, but with Erling Haaland’s seven goals to deal with, England head coach Thomas Tuchel cannot afford to take fitness risks with defenders.

England midfielder Dylan Rice is understood to have missed a second consecutive day of training due to an illness.

Rice has been suffering from nerve problems, affecting the abdomen and lower back, which are aggravated by pain.

England has taken steps to prevent the spread of the error.

In better news for Tuchel, right-back Reece James has returned to full training for the first time since picking up an injury in the goalless draw against Ghana.

The right-back did not complete the full session but James is expected to face Norway at the weekend.

Tuchel and his staff will have to decide if James is fit to start or if he should line up among the substitutes.
