England manager Thomas Tuchel has hinted that Bukayo Saka will not be in contention to start against Ghana on Tuesday.
Saka left the bench On Wednesday, Croatia won the World Cup 4-2And he immediately assisted substitute Marcus Rashford, who scored England’s fourth.
Ahead of the tournament, Tuchel said he understands Saka has an Achilles tendonitis problem and will need to manage it in the opening stages.
On Monday, Saka said that he is ready to play and that he is ready to “play” in fitness to help the team during the World Cup.
However, Tuchel said the Arsenal striker will not start until the final group game against Panama in New Jersey on June 27.
“Bukayo is prepared and will be more prepared. I think he will be ready after we go to the last game of this team.”
Saka has been raising the issue for some time now, and despite concerns behind the scenes at Arsenal, they reckon their striker is fit to start regularly during their triumphant title campaign.
It is understood that Saka’s ongoing Achilles issue has not worsened since the end of the domestic season.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has often been guarded about his players’ injury concerns and has generally kept information at home about Sacca’s progress, but Tuchel’s acceptance that the 24-year-old should at least start at the World Cup has put the winger’s performance in the spotlight.
Tuchel’s latest comments seem to show the German is keeping an eye on Sakan, knowing the striker will be a vital asset in the final stages of the tournament – but could start the game against Ghana if necessary.
