Jasmin Paolini completed the Philippines’ historic run to the Wimbledon quarterfinals with a hard-fought win over Alexandra Iala.
Ila became the first player from the Philippines to reach his fourth major of the Open era when he beat defending champion Iga Swaytech on Saturday.
Despite fighting hard to force the deciding set, the 21-year-old was unable to continue her dream as she fell to a 6-4 4-6 6-3 defeat by the strong Italian.
It is Paolini’s first Grand Slam quarterfinal since reaching back-to-back finals at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2024.
Finishing runner-up to Barbora Krejcikova two years ago, her energy and energy on court saw her become a crowd favorite throughout the English club.
And 14th seed Paolini, who has struggled with a foot injury this year, celebrated with a beaming smile before saying her positivity was her “superpower”.
“It’s been a really tough rollercoaster. 2026 has proven a lot to me,” the 30-year-old said.
“There were tough times but I kept working. I feel better every day, I feel right when I compete on the court again.
“I love what I do but I have to enjoy it – that’s my superpower.”
