1,000 Guineas: True Love hands Aidan O’Brien eighth winner of Fillies Classic

“Stepping up to the mile was a bit of a question mark for him because he’s full of speed, but I got into a nice position and he settled in really well – then it was just a matter of time before I let him go,” Lordan told ITV Sport.

“He’s got everything about him. He’s improving all the time.”

Owner and breeder Michael Tabor admits he had his doubts about O’Brien’s True Love’s stamina, but he “motivated him” to give the 1,000 Guineas a shot.

“I’m speechless, I’m not going to say a word,” Tabor said after True Love’s impressive victory in the 213th running of the Classic.

“Talking to him (O’Brien) this morning, he wasn’t very confident to say the least about true love or specifics.

“We thought we had doubts about True Love’s trip … but year after year, he (O’Brien) makes stuff up.”

Presize had all the support before the race after winning four of his five juvenile starts over the course and distance, including the filly’s mile, but he never ran on the far side of the course.

But True Love, a two-year-old Group One-winner at Newmarket in the Chevley Park Stakes, produced the goods for O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stable.

The Irish trainer said: “You couldn’t be sure he was going to get a mile, he’s a Queen Mary winner and it’s very unusual for a Queen Mary winner to get a mile.

“But Wayne gave him a nice ride.”
