10 crucial days… Real Madrid’s first official announcement about the election

Lack of time imposes ambiguity. Will Enrique Riquelme run to face Perez?

Real Madrid has announced the opening of nominations for the election called by club president Florentino Perez and has set 10 days for anyone who wants to nominate.

And after that Peres surprised yesterday by calling for early elections on TuesdayReal Madrid made the first official statement, detailing the elections, without mentioning the date of their holding.

“The Electoral Commission, in accordance with Article 38 of the club charter, announced the opening of the elections for the president and the board of directors in Real Madrid. In accordance with Article 40 of the same charter, the electoral commission officially announced the start of the electoral process, which will be held according to the established deadline.

Real Madrid added that the deadline for the submission of nominations is from May 14 to May 23, 2026, inclusive of two days, that is, a period of 10 days, according to the terms and conditions specified in the electoral regulations, provided that nominations will be accepted and announced the day after each nomination is submitted, which makes it possible for any president to challenge quickly if he wants any potential challenger.

But the issue is related not only to the lack of time, but also to the difficulty of the conditions set by the club’s charter, since the candidate must be a member for more than 20 years, in addition to a huge financial guarantee equivalent to 15% of the club’s budget, which in practice significantly reduces the number of potential candidates.

In this context, the name of Enrique Riquelme stands out as the only potential candidate with the economic capacity and profile to try to run. However, his candidacy remains uncertain at the moment, until a final decision is made regarding the submission of the documents within the specified period.

Regarding the protest against the acceptance or rejection of nominations, “Real Madrid” explained in its statement. “Appeals must be submitted to the Electoral Commission, in accordance with the regulations, within two normal days from the date of notification and official announcement of acceptance or rejection of the nomination.”

As for the election (voting) day, the club noted that if more than one list of candidates is approved, the Electoral Commission will announce the day and place of voting later.
