This heartwarming, three-part documentary tells the wild story of a casino bombing and the man behind it. In 1980, a timebomb using 1,000lb of dynamite was driven through Harvey’s Wagon Wheel Casino in Lake Tahoe, with a $3m (£2.2m) ransom note attached to it. It was so difficult that, as one member of the bomb squad who was there remembers in the first episode, “all normal methods were thrown out the window”. Hollie Richardson

Of course, it would have to be Matthew McConaughey eating venison (“It’s not that bad”) in the Norwegian wilderness. He and his old friend Bear venture deep into the remote mountains of Vestland on a punishing journey on dogsleds across glaciers, waterfalls and mountain valleys, while opening up about faith and fatherhood around the fire. Ali Catterall

Batman (Tim Burton, 1989)5.50pm, Sky Cinema Greats
With this magical 1989 comedy, Tim Burton rescued Batman from his TV ghetto – at least to the left of Michael Keaton as the dark knight. Getting Jack Nicholson to play the Joker was really a no-brainer: he seems to have a lot of interest as the grinning, brown-haired psychopath. Other good choices include a modified Batmobile including a soundtrack by Danny Elfman and another purple fan, Prince. The sequel, Batman Returns, with Danny DeVito as the Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, follows at 8 p.m. Simon Wardell
