If you’ve seen snow forecasts for the next week flash up on your social media feed in the past few days, you’re probably thinking winter is on its way back.
While snow is not expected in much of the UK, it is true that good conditions are set to dominate for May.
With high pressure to the west of the UK, winds are mainly from the cold northerly. In the second half of the week, our weather will come from around the Arctic Circle in northern Scandinavia.
Daytime temperatures will be 9-14 Celsius (48-57F) cooler than normal in many areas.
Areas of low pressure moving south across the country will bring more chances of rain and, like last week, some snow in Shetland and the Scottish Highlands cannot be ruled out.
As well as snow, last week brought the UK its coldest May conditions for nearly 30 years. Tomintol recorded a low of -6.8C (20F) in Moray, Scotland on the night of 5/6 May. This is the lowest temperature recorded in Leadhills, Lanarkshire, for the same month in May since 1997.
More overnight snow is expected in places this coming week.
