Women’s Six Nations 2026: England prop Maud Muir’s love of cricket and ‘exciting’ defenders

Known for “boshing” – a technique England’s strikers love to use to side-step defenders – Muir smiles as he discusses his skill.

But, you say “Bosch” is the correct wording.

“It’s running up to someone and embarrassing them or fighting them and embarrassing them,” says Muir.

Quietly spoken and polite off the field, the former Wasps front-rower is a powerful athlete who relishes physical contact.

Given that she is “so desperate” to return to cricket, what she hopes to do one day is build a pottery room behind her house complete with a wheel and a kiln – the type of kiln used to harden and dry pottery.

Leading from the front is also done on the team bus, with the ‘Maud Tour’ now part of the team’s itinerary.

“It started last year at York in the Six Nations. I was at the front of the bus when my younger partner Lucy Packer was travelling,” she explained.

“I’m always up front and the microphone is always there. I started on tour in York and it’s stuck ever since. I forget every week that I’m doing it.

“It’s the last minute, trying to get as many facts as I can. They’re either true or false. Like Meg Jones likes to send me some things that can be false.”

The next destination is Parma – yet to be explored by Muir – where Italy will host the world championships on Saturday.

England sit top of the Six Nations table with three bonus point wins over Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The 84-7 win over Scotland was a great way to celebrate Muir’s 50th cap, with her father wearing a kilt and England top – another piece of her scrapbook.

“It was such a special occasion that living in Murrayfield in Scotland made it special for my family, especially my dad,” Muir said.

“I have photographic evidence. It’s in my diary.

“He had the best of both worlds. He’s 77% Scottish.”

Before Saturday’s match, Muir, who will set up his fifth Grand Slam decider against France, plans to head to a local pottery center to make bowls for ramen.

Bowling is sure to keep the Italian defenders out of her way.
