“Real” reveals "a spy"

Who is he?

The management of Real Madrid is experiencing a state of growing alarm over sensitive media leaks, suspected to be from a person close to the club’s administrative circle.

The most recent of these leaks was that published by Radio El Largero, affiliated with the Cadena Ser network, which reported that the club was preparing for an administrative restructuring that would include the appointment of a new sporting director.

The report prompted the Royals to take the rare step of releasing an official statement describing the reports as “completely untrue”.

Exclusive announcement

Real Madrid usually do not prefer to make such official announcements because they realize they have to do it every day to respond to inaccurate information published by the media.

But on this occasion he preferred to clarify, stressing that he “extremely appreciates the work done by the club’s sports administration, which allowed us to live in one of the most successful phases of our history, winning many titles, including 6 Champions League champions in 10 years.”

The person pointed at is Santiago Solari, the former coach of the Argentine first team.

Shade from the facade

Florentino Pérez re-loaned Solari in November 2022, months after his departure from Mexican side Club America.

His return was widely publicized and he was even given the position of “Director of Football”, which was already held by the club’s CEO, José Ángel Sánchez.

Solari eventually took charge of the Castilian reserve team, but that was short-lived as the position fell to Manu Fernández, son of the club’s former manager Manuel Fernández Trejo.

Solari does not have a specific position for a long time, apart from being an ambassador for the club, and he can be seen in the stands during important matches for the first team.

Due to the lack of a clear role for him, this issue prompted the club officials to consider his departure, but he asked for some time to wait for an offer to coach another team, which has not yet been received, so his situation at Real Madrid has become very complicated.

Filter twice

Solari was one of the candidates to temporarily replace Carlo Ancelotti and later replace Xabi Alonso permanently at the Club World Cup, but Alvaro Arbeloa was given the nod for promotion from the reserve team.

Since then, some inside the club have feared that Solari will look for ways to influence or enter the sporting administration, a tight circle made up of Florentino Perez, Jose Angel Sánchez, Johnny Calafat and the team’s first coach.

The final decisions are always made by the president, so to question the work of his close team is to question Florentino Perez himself.
