It’s been another long week without a Trump phone call, but that’s not the only phone call I have to worry about. Robot vacuum maker Dreame has announced its own unbootable phones, and one of them takes Trump’s phone playbook and turns it up to 11.
Another point in Dreame’s defense is that it had physical phones on display at its inauguration, which is more than I can say about Trump Mobile so far. Its phones are also ambitious, though that’s why I’m confident it won’t launch again. One is an automatic device with a hidden cam and AI tools, but the other is unusual: the Aurora Lux is supposed to be available without intelligence. 29 different designsmany of them are covered with precious stones, gold, or both.
They come with amazing names just like their designs. The Axiom Shield looks like the Pixel 10 wrapped in snakeskin. The Luxe Loop Sanctuary wraps a ring of sparkling jewels around a large rotating camera island. The Imperial Totem appears to have a glowing peacock. And, yes, more among them is gold: Trump Mobile must be kicking itself that it didn’t come up with the Golden Age, a design that dresses the phone in diamond-encrusted gold and turns the expensive camera island into a golden analog watch. It’s beautiful for Trump all the way.
It’s not just phones that are Trumped Trump Mobile. Dreame’s spectacular show in San Franciscofilled with examples, rocket carsand Steve Wozniak, stands in stark contrast to Trump Mobile’s. That day, almost a year ago now, he saw three middle-aged adults arguing in the small yard with Don Jr. and Eric Trump in the burning room at Trump Tower in New York. Why is it that a robotics removal company can make better and more attractive designs than the Trumps?
Dreame Phones, with its launch event, has a desire to please the middle T1 Phone is missing. If you’re going to sell a phone idea, at least make it entertainment one.
I don’t think I’ll be writing every week about Dreame’s lack of hardware, because they don’t have the political immediacy that makes Trump Mobile so compelling to watch. And, so far, Dreame isn’t trying to take $100 deposits on phones it might not install, which is a good thing. Besides – if Dreame can pull off the odds and put one of its standard, jewel-toned phones in my hands before the Trump Mobile, it will make my year.
