Real Madrid: La Liga club fines Aurelien Choumeni and Federico Valverde for dressing room row

Real Madrid midfielders Aurelien Choumeni and Federico Valverde have been fined a combined €1m following a dressing room brawl between the duo.

Valverde, 27, went to hospital with a head injury after an altercation with France international Choumeny, 26, but The pair denied they had “come to blows”.

The Uruguayan said the injury, which will keep him out of El Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday, occurred when he “accidentally hit a table”.

Both players attended an internal disciplinary meeting on Friday and accepted fines of £432,000 (€500,000) each.

“During the complaint, the players expressed their deep regret for what happened and apologized to each other,” Real Madrid said in a statement.

“They have also apologized to the club, their teammates, coaching staff and supporters and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever the club sees fit.”
