Zamora, the knife and the extraordinary title… the story of an unforgettable classic

Barcelona are looking forward to winning the Spanish league title when they host their arch-rivals Real Madrid at the Camp Nou next Sunday night in the thirty-fifth round of La Liga, in a Clasico of historic and athletic proportions that go beyond the three-point line.

After the dream of winning the Champions League title for the first time since 2015 was dashed, Barcelona’s attention was fully focused on finishing the domestic season on top, retaining the Spanish league title for the second season in a row;

German coach Hans Flick’s side are 11 points clear of their royal rivals at the top of La Liga, meaning a draw would officially be enough to crown Barcelona as Spanish champions with three rounds of the season to go, while victory would give them a historic chance to continue their pursuit of the competition’s all-time points record.

If Barcelona manage to win their remaining four games, starting with Alvaro Arbeloa’s upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid, they will equal the historic mark of 100 points, a feat that Real first achieved under Jose Mourinho in the 2011-2012 season, before Barcelona repeated it with Tito Vilanova in the post-season.
