Tesla is recalling its low-cost Cybertruck because the wheels could fall off

Tesla is recalling its RWD Cybertruck Long Range for faulty rotors that could cause the wheels to fall off, eg. previously shown and MotorTrend price. In information on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, Tesla says that “the brake rotor stud holes can break and allow the brake rotor to separate from the wheels.”

The recall affects all 173 of the $70,000 Cybertrucks sold by Tesla, which come with 18-inch steel wheels. The company records that it has identified three claims that may be related to the problem, but is “not aware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries” related to the recall.

“For the affected vehicles, excessive impact on roads and corners can damage the wheel rotor bore, causing cracks to form,” Tesla said. “If the cracks spread with constant use and stress, the wheels can separate from the wheel.” Tesla says it will remove and replace the front and rear rotors, hubs, and lug nuts for free.
