Apple’s educational discounts now require proof that you’re a student

Apple now requires proof of authorization from US customers who shop online at discounted prices, which also applies to the Apple Watch for the first time. According to the new pop-up message that is displayed Apple’s online coursesApple advises students, parents, and teachers to verify their status through the Unidays third-party verification service – a system that the Cupertino company has already implemented in other countries, including the UK.

Apple Insider reports say that the Unidays service is now also being offered to Apple customers in Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Turkey, and Chile. Eligible customers can use their email address, photo ID, or other valid document from the educational institution to verify their education through the Unidays app or website.

This is in addition to the existing verification requirements for purchasing products at educational prices in retail stores. Apple also says that customers can also complete Unidays verification in advance to speed up in-store purchases. These changes are being made to prevent people from abusing scholarship prices, as anyone in the US has previously been able to purchase discounted products through the scholarship store.

This is Apple’s second attempt to use Unidays authentication for US purchases, to have it he briefly described it four years ago before removing the requirement. Let’s see if it lasts long.
