Danny Rohl: Rangers boss insists ‘full focus’ on rebuilding Ibrox club and Bundesliga link | football news

Danny Rohl insists his “full focus” is on Rangers and “winning titles in the future” amid speculation linking him with a move to the Bundesliga.

The Ibrox head coach, who took over in October, is reportedly aiming to replace veteran boss Dieter Hecking for Wolfsburg.

After guiding Rangers back into the Scottish Premiership title race, defeat at Hearts on Monday meant they could end another season without a trophy.

Ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash with Celtic, live on Sky Sports, the 37-year-old said: “My whole focus is on Rangers.

“There are a lot of rumours. I look back at the number of clubs I was involved with last year, I might get 20 jobs in newspapers.

“Even in the last few days our conversation with the club only goes in one direction, how we can win titles with the club in the future.”

Back-to-back Premiership defeats have increased the pressure on the German, who has previously spoken of his ambitions to stay in the top flight in his homeland.

Asked if he would still be in charge of Ibrox next season, Rohl added: “From my side, of course, 100 per cent. I’m sure. I chose to bring this club back to success and win titles.

Chris Boyd has questioned the mentality of this Rangers side and claims they have failed with two successive defeats.

“We haven’t won what we should have in the last 15 years and I think that’s a big part of what we need to change.

“In the last six months, we’ve improved higher and higher standards. In the last seven days we haven’t and I think that’s a big part of our future.

“We’re moving on now and it gives me, especially for the new season, a big, big motivation to get better every day, to raise the standard and go forward with what we want.”

Rangers must win at Celtic Park on Sunday to keep alive their hopes of finishing second to secure a place in the Champions League qualifiers.

His last visit to Parkhead ended with a 3-1 win over a Hoops side managed by former boss Wilfred Nancy.

“This is a special game for us,” he added.

“No one needs extra motivation going into this game. We want to make our supporters and fans proud and that means we have to deliver on Sunday.

“The last game there is a good snapshot of our last few weeks.

“We started well in the first half but then the opposition were good and scored.

“We adjusted things at half-time and had a plan B. Then we made it 3-1.

“We showed we could do it. That’s when we really felt the belief that even if things weren’t right in a game, we could turn them around.”
