Nintendo is raising the prices of the Switch 2

Nintendo on raising the price of the Switch 2 console worldwide, “based on market changes,” and is now predicting a decline in sales next year. Starting September 1, the Switch 2 will cost $499.99 in the US, down from its original price of $449.99.

At the same time, prices will also increase by $ 50 in Canada ($ 679.99, from $ 629.99) and € 40 in Europe, bringing it to € 499.99 (about $ 587). The price hike in Japan will go into effect soon, on May 25, and will affect most Switch products. The Switch 2 will go from ¥49,980 (about $318) to ¥59,980 (about $382), and the same increase will be applied to the original Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite models.

Other price increases will also affect Nintendo’s Japanese customers, with a significant increase in Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and limited playing card prices also taking effect on May 25. In a statement issued alongside earnings, Nintendo said the price changes are being made because “the effects of various market changes are expected to continue in the short term.”

“We sincerely apologize for how this price adjustment may affect our customers and other stakeholders, and greatly appreciate your understanding,” Nintendo said.

In its latest financial statement, Nintendo says it sold 19.86 million units of the Switch 2 in FY26, surpassing the original Switch (15.05 million units) in its first fiscal year. Nintendo says that sales of the Switch 2 “were significantly higher in the launch year” than previous Nintendo devices, so they are predicting fewer units to be sold in the second year of sales.

The company is forecasting to sell 16.5 million units of the Switch 2 in FY27, and is forecasting around ¥100.0 billion in revenue still to come. Nintendo says this is “increasing product prices, especially memoryand tariff measures.”
