The United States is trying to limit Israel’s actions in Lebanon as it seeks to strengthen ongoing cooperation and move to the next phase of negotiations between the two sides, according to a senior Lebanese official.
The official, who spoke to Al Jazeera Arabic on the condition of anonymity, revealed on Thursday the details of the second round of talks between Israel and Lebanon after the first round in Washington, DC, in mid-April, which led to the current ceasefire being announced but protests continue.

The delegation’s talks will begin on May 17 in the US capital, the official said, adding that the talks will discuss security and political issues to solve the problem of Israel’s complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon, borders, prisoners, refugees and reconstruction.
Reuters and AFP news agencies, both of which quoted an unnamed government official on Thursday, said the next round of talks is scheduled to take place on May 14 and 15.
