Google unveils Fitbit Air screenless app with Google Health to replace Fitbit

The Fitbit Air will have all the wearable monitors: heart rate, accelerometer/gyroscope, infrared SpO2, and skin temperature. Google says the heart rate monitor isn’t as advanced as the one in the latest Pixel Watches, so the Air won’t be as accurate for vigorous activity. The Air also has a vibration motor that can be used as an alarm, but it doesn’t have phone notifications like a smartwatch.

The Fitbit Air will launch on May 26 for $99.99 with the included Performance Loop band. There is also a silicone Performance Loop and Elevated Modern Band. Bands start at $34.99 and come in a variety of colors. The purchase of Fitbit Air also includes three months of Google Health Premium (replacing Fitbit Premium), which now includes the new Google AI Health Coach.

The Fitbit app is getting a big makeover with a new name. Updates in the coming weeks will transform the app into Google Health, with a new interface with a more intuitive Material Expressive interface and a redesigned tabbed layout. You won’t see the Fitbit logo in many places anymore – the Fitbit Premium subscription will be Google Health Premium.

Without registration, the app still does all the important things, such as tracking your health statistics, logging automatically, and displaying everything on a beautiful dashboard. With a Premium subscription, you get everything from Fitbit Premium including the new AI Health Coach. It’s a chatbot, so you can ask it about health or wellness issues, and the answers are based on your health information.

Google suggests asking a Health Coach to perform personalized exercises or diagnose health problems. The robot can use the health metrics you’ve collected, such as exercise, diet, and sleep, to make better recommendations. You can also upload a photo of a meal to Health Coach and import it into the app.
