A Tenerife resident called the plan ‘reckless’ as the hantavirus ship approached.

The MV Hondius is on its way to Spain’s Canary Islands, where all passengers will be disembarked after being docked near Cape Verde for three days.

Three people have died on or after traveling on board the ship after the Hantavirus outbreak.

The cruise left Argentina a month ago. The cruise ship will dock at the port of Granadilla in Tenerife, Spanish Health Minister Monica Garcia said on Wednesday.

Garcia said everyone on board will undergo a medical examination upon arrival and those arriving from abroad will be repatriated if fit to travel.

People living in Tenerife are worried about the ship’s arrival and residents “could have trouble on the island,” they told the BBC.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea… but people need help,” said one of the residents.
