Jaylen Brown: Could play in Boston for ‘next 10 years’

Brown’s feelings about the organization that drafted him in 2016 came into question when Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady said during a recent episode of the podcast “Cousins” that the five-time All-Star forward has a frustration that is “deeply rooted within the (Celtics) organization.”

Earlier Wednesday, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens downplayed any perceived rift with Brown, saying it was “nothing but positive” when the two spoke Monday. Hours later, in an appearance on his Twitch stream, Brown agreed.

“I hate that our president of basketball operations even had to respond to that,” Brown said. “Me and Brad have a great relationship. I love Boston. And if it were up to me, I would play in Boston for the next 10 years.”

Brown also reiterated that it was his favorite season of his career, something that raised eyebrows when he mentioned during another Twitch stream earlier this week that he won a title with the Celtics in 2024 and was just days away from a stunning first-round exit. Philadelphia 76ers.

“You get to see these guys, all my teammates, grow up,” Brown said. “I’ve seen them overcome adversity as a group, up close and personal. … Obviously, we’re not satisfied with the results. If that sounds like an excuse, it’s not. But fighting through adversity and moving forward and growing and getting together with a bunch of guys and having that mindset and approach, it was my favorite year.

“I wouldn’t say that far; it would be a long shot because obviously winning a championship is great. But I’m telling you all, it was my favorite season.”

Brown also said he has no regrets about the comments he made about officiating after Boston’s Game 7 loss to Philly, which led to the NBA fining him $50,000 on Tuesday. “The inconsistency of responsibilities between the playoffs and the regular season is not something that has been addressed by me,” Brown said Wednesday night. “You can fine me, you can keep fining me, but I think about these things—. I love the game of basketball. Damn, fine me for that.”

Brown is eligible to sign a two-year, $141.9 million extension with the Celtics in July.
