Arsenal had an easy path to the final with wins over Bayern Munich, Sporting and Atlético, while PSG beat Monaco, Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern to reach the final.
But you can only beat the teams in front of you – and Arsenal have made an impressive run, including Bayern, Atletico and last season’s finalists Inter Milan, with eight wins to go top of the league with 32 clubs.
His 14-game unbeaten run was the longest in the competition, and he went 13 games from March 2005 to April 2006, losing to Barcelona under the leadership of Arsene Wenger and reaching the final.
But what sets this season’s crop apart from Arsenal’s squads is a newfound defensive maturity.
“Obviously there are reasons for Arsenal to be 100% confident in the final,” said Onuoha.
“They know PSG’s style and if you let them bother you, you can really struggle. But Arsenal will have a plan. Of course they know the domestic season as well, but they will definitely plan for the Champions League final and they know they can cause PSG problems.”
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves told TNT Sport: “Arsenal have a chance without question – their defense and their goalkeeper are brilliant.
Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard added: “I know better than anyone that an underdog is going to win this final – that was the mismatch when we won with Liverpool against AC Milan.”
“Arsenal will play against a high-quality team, against a great manager. Every player has to be at the top of their game. They have to use their physicality, their size and take PSG where they don’t want to – but they definitely have a chance.”
