The striker of “Bavaria” Munich does not manage to escape from the curse of “Tottenham”
Despite the exceptional season that England’s Harry Kane delivered with Bayern Munich in the 2025-2026 Champions League, the Bavarian side’s journey came to a screeching halt in the semi-finals against PSG.
Kane scored 14 goals in 12 games to finish second among the tournament’s top scorers and was instrumental in helping Bayern reach this crucial stage with crucial goals against the continent’s best players, but defeat in both legs of the semi-final against the Parisian side ended the team’s dream of winning the European title this season.
Bayern Munich’s defeat by Paris Saint-Germain was a sad end to a promising European season, but it does not diminish the brilliance of Harry Kane, who once again proved he is one of the best strikers in the world.
Will this exclusion motivate the Bavarian team to come back stronger next season or will it open the door for comprehensive changes?

Kane excelled in both matches against Paris Saint-Germain, but it was not enough to overcome the superior attacking quality of Luis Enrique’s side. In the first leg, we saw the Parisians win 5-4 in an exciting game, followed by a strong performance in the second leg, without Bayern being able to reverse the result and qualify.
Kane’s Champions League career came to a screeching halt despite scoring in two games against Paris, as he scored his final goal of the tournament in the continental championship in the 90th + 4th minute, taking advantage of Alphonso Davies’ decisive pass to prove that age is just a number and that he has the vigor of youth.
Although Bayern ended his career in the Champions League, Kane’s figures (949 minutes, 43 shots and two assists) reflected his ability to perform at the highest level despite his advanced age.

Kane wasn’t content with scoring against lesser teams, as 8 of his 13 goals came against Europe’s top clubs, all of which were decisive goals.
In the group stage against Real Madrid, he scored a double at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The match ended 2-2. The second goal was scored in the 89th minute and saved “Bavaria” from certain defeat. This was his 50th goal in the history of participation in the Champions League.
And against Arsenal in the Round of 16, he scored the only winning goal in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium, from the penalty spot after rounding William Saliba. Bayern qualified 3-2 on aggregate and Kane’s goal was the password.
In the quarter-final first leg against Barcelona, he opened the scoring with an early header in the 12th minute at the Allianz Arena. The match ended 2-1 for Bayern, and it was Kane’s goal that broke Barcelona’s defensive block and opened the match.
In the second leg of the quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, and despite the exit, Bayern’s only goal came from a rocket on the edge of the penalty area at the Parc des Princes, but the goal was not enough to qualify, but confirmed that Kane is in the big games even if his team let him down.
The 2025-26 campaign put Kane at the heart of the battle for the European Golden Boot, but he finished runners-up in the competition despite being knocked out by Bayern Munich. Harry Kane has scored 13 goals in 11 games at 1.18 goals per game, behind Kylian Mbappe in second place with 15 goals in 12 games at 1.25 goals per game.
Kane clearly surpassed the rest of the competitors. Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon scored 10 goals in 10 games, PSG’s Hvicha Kvaratschelia scored 10 goals in 12 games, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez scored 10 goals in 10 games and Ertiz joined Safi.
Notably, 7 of Kane’s 13 goals have been scored away from the Allianz Arena, the most of any goalscorer in the tournament. He also showed great variety in scoring, with 4 goals with his right foot, 6 goals with his left foot and 3 goals with his head, which confirms that he does not rely on one foot or a specific style.
The 2025–2026 season was Kane’s best in the competition as he scored 13 goals in 11 games, equaling his top-scoring tally he achieved in the 2023/2024 season with Bayern Munich when he scored 8 goals in 12 games, but did so in fewer matches this season.
His best season for Tottenham was 2017/2018, when he scored 7 goals in 7 games and was eliminated from the round of 16. In the 2018/201 season, he scored 5 goals in 9 games and reached the final, and in 2019/2020, he scored 6 goals before being eliminated in the 5th round.
Kane broke 3 important records this season. The first is that he is just one goal away from becoming the highest-scoring English player in a single season in Champions League history.
The second number is that he has reached 51 career goals in the tournament, overtaking Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry, and the third is that he is just five goals away from tying Ruud van Nistelrooy for the all-time top scorers list.
14 goals in 12 games and 51 in the Champions League, surpassing legends like Salah and Henry. Harry Kane presented his most complete European version with Bayern Munich. He was no longer just a scorer, but a complete offensive leader who scored goals in every way and competed with Mbappe for the lead until the last breath.
The numbers said he deserved to be in the final, but once again football refused to do him justice. Bayern fell to Paris despite Kane’s goal to turn the night at the Allianz Arena into a repeat. Kane leaves the field in tears, adding to his list of disappointments a personal season in history. The curse that haunted him at Tottenham followed him to Munich… a top scorer not crowned.
