Google is changing its AI Search feature to make it easier for users to find information from sources they know and trust. One of the most popular updates brings a “trending view” from social networking sites, Reddit, and other online forums, which seamlessly integrates your search with online discussions on similar topics.
Google said the change is aimed at addressing “the increasing number of people looking to others for advice” when searching for information online. This can also happen to anyone who added “Reddit” to the end of a Google search term to get experiences from real people instead of SEO-optimized search results. It also helps in the back A statement from Reddit CEO Steve Huffman last year that “almost everyone who uses Google today has ended up on Reddit.”
By making this part of its AI Search tools, Google is trying to encourage more users to experiment instead of manually searching for traditional results in Google Search. Google says it’s also adding additional keywords to new AI links, such as the creator’s name, handle, or community name, so the source of the conversation can be identified more quickly. These sources are presented as “Expert Advice” in AI-powered searches, and can point users to unique, specialized forums and subreddits that they may want to explore further.
“For example, if you’re searching for how to take good pictures of the northern lights, you can see comments from the photography forum that advise on exposure times, along with jump links — with the community’s name — so you can jump to the full conversation,” Google said in its announcement.
Google is also adding additional links to useful websites alongside keywords for AI solutions. These are designed to be relevant to the user’s question, but not the desired answer, such as linking users to travel blogs and training ideas when searching for information about cycling. Another update adds suggestions on related topics at the end of AI solutions to encourage users to search for more information on the topic they are searching for. For example, if users are researching how cities are growing green spaces, Google can also display official reports and research on the success of major cities along with a summary of the results.
And finally, Google is also making specific sources easier to find with a new feature that shows links from your subscriptions in AI Mode and AI Overviews, especially for publishers who support subscription linking. This means that your trusted sources of information must stand out against the flood.
