The CEO of Microsoft LinkedIn, Ryan Roslansky, took the initiative additional work at the company as the head of Office last year, and is now getting more responsibilities as part of the latest leadership changes within Microsoft. Sources tell me that Microsoft Teams is moving to report to Roslansky, who will now lead Microsoft’s new Work Experience Group.
The changes are part of a larger change initiated by Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s senior vice president of tools and devices. from Microsoft after more than 35 years. Jha oversaw the teams behind Windows, Office, Copilot, and Microsoft 365, and Microsoft has been trying to divide his responsibilities since he announced his retirement in March.
Charles Lamanna, who has risen rapidly at Microsoft, is also taking on more responsibilities, according to an internal memo seen by Seaside. Lamanna will lead the Copilot, Agents, and Platform (CAP) team within Microsoft, which includes Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 services, BizChat, and more. Microsoft 365 Core, OneDrive and SharePoint (ODSP), and Data Platform and Growth (DPG) are also joining the Lamanna group.
This will also see former Microsoft executives Jeff Teper and Kirk Koenigsbauer head to Lamanna. Teper will serve as senior vice president of software and support, while Koenigsbauer is president of Data Platform and Growth.
Head of Microsoft Surface and Windows, Pavan Davuluri, will continue to lead the Windows and Devices Group. The Linga Group that Microsoft acquired in 2017 runs under Davuluri. This includes Microsoft technology partner Charles Simonyi, who founded Intentional Software in 2002. Prior to that Simonyi spent more than 20 years at Microsoft, overseeing the creation of Excel and Word.
Perry Clarke is now the CTO of Application Systems at Microsoft, after almost ten years running Microsoft 365 Core, the main functions and components of Microsoft 365. Clarke’s new role “will focus on the overall architecture of M365 and Copilot, and how it is best developed with model families, Azure cloud, and memosilicone from J.
Lamanna thanked Clarke “for his years of stewardship of the M365 Core,” in a memo to employees Tuesday. “The bar they set for durability and customer engagement laid the foundation for the next generation of AI products and technology.”
The new structure for the Microsoft Experiences and Devices organization begins this week, and Lamanna, Davuluri, Clarke, and Roslansky will all begin reporting directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on June 30, once Jha leaves Microsoft.
Microsoft’s latest move comes as the company prepares to lay off long-serving employees the ability to rest at will. US workers whose full working years have been extended to their full 70s or older will be able to take voluntary retirement, and Microsoft is announcing all of these to workers tomorrow. There are many employees in Windows and Office organizations who would be eligible for the one-time program, and it will be interesting to see how many take Microsoft up on its offer.
