Al-Ahly coach Dane Jes Torop praised his players after their 3-0 win in the Egyptian league this evening, revealing a behind-the-scenes look at last winter’s Mercato.
Torop said at the press conference. “Congratulations to our great fans for the second consecutive victory with three goals without reply (after the match against Zamalek)… The fans supported us and deserved this victory, and I dedicate the victory to them.”
He added: “I hope this is the start of a new period full of victories, and I know that the fans have gone through a difficult period due to the lack of victory, and for that I apologize to them.”
“Before the last two matches we were not in our best form, but why is there no talk about the continuity of Hussein El Shahat and not just Ben Sharkey?” I think it is not the first time that he participates as a spearman. We did that against Esperance, but a simple mistake conceded a goal, which had a psychological effect on Ashraf.
“I’ve spoken to Ben Sharkey before because he wasn’t at the same level as he was in the Super Cup against Zamalek, so I’m glad he’s back to his level again.”
And about Imam Ashur was injuredToday he commented. “I spoke to the doctor a little while ago and the player as well and he had an operation on his knee and hopefully it’s just a bruise, but we’ll wait for the final diagnosis.”
Referring to the reasons for the drop in the team’s level in the previous period, the coach explained. “We were doing very well before the Africa Cup of Nations, but after that we relied on the young players for the Capital Cup as international players joined the team, which led to a drop in performance and it was difficult to get back to the same level after their return, in addition to the injury line.”
As for the interference of others in the selection of the Al-Ahli squad since the summit against Zamalek, he commented:
Regarding the deal last January, Thorop said: “There were many discussions and I am grateful to Mahmoud Al-Khatib for giving me the opportunity to coach Al-Ahly, but he has health problems and is not directly involved in football.”
“This file is currently managed by Yasin Mansour and Syed Abdel Hafeez. I agreed with them in the last transfer window and identified my needs not only in terms of positions but also in terms of quality, because I need players who can make a difference, otherwise I will be happy with the current group.
“Al-Ahly” coach concluded. “I will not be the person to run away or give up. I’m happy to be at Al-Ahly and I’m always in a fighting mood, but the decision to leave will not be in my hands, and if it happens, it will be from another side.”
