Harvest time?… Inzaghi explains his decision over Benzema and Al-Dosari

The Italian coach regrets the absence of his star… and sends a message to the Gulf

Italian coach and Al Hilal technical director Simone Inzaghi stressed that his side treat every match in the Roshan Saudi Professional League as a final after Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Al Khalij in Round 31 saw them close the gap to the leaders to just two points.

Inzaghi said at the press conference after the match. “I congratulate my team for the victory. After the game, I congratulated the players for their efforts and fighting spirit.” He also praised the Gulf team and said it “deserves to be saluted and respected”.

The Italian coach added: “For us, the matches are considered finals, and the opposing team has a good defensive organization.”

Regarding the changes he made during the game, Inzaghi explained that they were made according to “technical needs”, adding: “I saw that we were going well, while Gulf was defending with 8 players, so the difficulty of the task increased, and when I saw fit to make changes, I did so,” reports Asharq Al-Awsat.

“Al Hilal” coach referred to the decision to rest some of the key players such as Salem Al Dosari, Karim Benzema and Miteb Al Harbi during today’s meeting.

“After this game we have the (Cup of the King) final on Friday and that’s why I thought to rest Salem Al-Dosari, Benzema, Miteb and others because it’s important that we distribute the effort. This is the end of the season and the time of harvest.”

Inzaghi addressed all the supporters of the leader and said: “I salute our fans and everyone who gets behind us and we want to end the season on a positive note.”

When asked about the pressure of matches and physical fatigue that the team suffers from, he answered:

He continued. “Defensively, we are missing a valuable player in Koulibaly and it is effective. Also, with the physical pressure, because we are playing every 3 or 4 days, we have to look for all the solutions to continue with the existing names.”

Inzaghi praised the performance of Sultan Mandesh, who scored the winning goal and was a standout tonight, saying: “Sultan is a good player and does what is required of him. He is one of the important names of the team. He performed well today and deserves praise.”

Sultan Mandash won the man of the match award after scoring the decisive goal against Al Khalij tonight in the 79th minute.

With this victory, Al Hilal reached 77 points, maintaining their unbeaten record this season, while Al Nasr remained in the lead with 79 points, with only three rounds left in the league and a head-to-head clash between the two teams.
