Google Home gets upgraded Gemini voice assistant and new camera controls

Google has released its biggest A powerful overhaul of the AI of Google Home late last year, and it’s been making additions here and there since then. Today, the company announced a major changes that can solve your smart home problems. Camera feeds will be easier to navigate, and AI characters should be more straightforward. The move to Gemini 3.1 for Home voice assistance should also mean that the robot is smaller and more reliable.

According to Google, Home users who signed up for early access should have the Gemini 3.1 update. Google released this version of AI on other platforms in February, but that release did not include Google’s smart speakers. With the Home expansion, Google says the speakers can take advantage of Gemini 3.1’s “advanced logic” to better translate and execute complex, multi-voice commands. Of course, it says something like this with every change of Gemini.

Google has cited various AI evaluations that show it Gemini 3.1 It’s good to distinguish between big, complex information. It showed gains on tests like the ARC-AGI-2 and Humanity’s Last Exam, both of which require cognitive problems that require specific knowledge. How this kind of technology will benefit a smart speaker who communicates briefly is unclear, but you can have long conversations with Gemini on your smart home devices if you want to. Google recognizes that the improved version can process multiple tasks at once, saving you from splitting tasks into multiple commands.

The AI-powered feature of Ask Home is expanding beyond the app with this update. Soon, the Home-Specific Gemini chatbot will be available on the Home network, allowing you to check camera profiles and create automations. This will start as a slideshow, however.
