Al-Raqi’s leadership is moving quickly to find an alternative
The management of the Saudi Al-Ahli Saudi club has begun efforts to select a new coach for the team as a successor. Slot returns to the forefront
Arne Slott is one of the most prominent names on Al-Ahly’s roster to become available in the managerial market since his departure from Liverpool last May, after more than two seasons in which he led the team to the Premier League title in 2025.
Despite several recent offers, including from Fulham, the Dutchman has opted not to return to training while the London club move to sign Alvaro Arbeloa.
Slott was also linked with a Milan job before the Italian club signed Ruben Amorim in addition to his bid to take charge of the Netherlands national team, but he is still without a club.
Options include Vitor Pereira
Al-Ahly’s interest is not limited to Slot, as the club also includes Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira in the list of contenders, taking advantage of his previous experience in the Saudi Arabian League.
According to the report, Al-Ahli have yet to hold formal talks with Pereira, but he remains one of the highly recommended options.
The 58-year-old Portuguese coach has previous experience with Al-Shabaab in Saudi Arabia, and he previously coached Al-Ahli in 2013, before Wolverhampton and then Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
Pereira left Nottingham Forest earlier this July, although the team’s stay in the Premier League and reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League allowed him to return to training.
Al-Ahly are moving fast
In turn, Saudi journalist Walid Saeed revealed that “Al-Ahly” management has already started official negotiations with a number of coaches to choose Yasla’s successor.
