Every ancient language that has ever been known needs an anchor. In most cases, a bilingual word, such as Rosetta Stone, or a familiar relative to compare it to. Linear A, the Bronze Age Minoan civilization on the Greek island of Crete, has none.
Linear A it is described as an “isolated language” because it has no definite relation to any known language, living or dead. As such, it has created a big problem for linguists over the past century.
Etruscanthe Italian language that was used before the establishment of the Roman Empire, has fared a little better. A few words have been taken from the short funeral text, but its grammar and deeper meanings are still unknown to linguists.
