Takehiro Tomiyasu: Crystal Palace have discussed a free transfer

Crystal Palace Takehiro Tomiyasu has negotiated a permanent deal which would see the defender return to the Premier League.

Tomiyasu has been training with Palace and was named as a substitute in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly against Lens.

And the Japan international is understood to have negotiated a permanent deal with Palace which would see the 27-year-old join on a free transfer.

It is understood that Palace head coach Pierre Sage has a wide range of terms in deciding to sign the versatile defender.

Sage is set to play with three central defenders next season and it is understood Tomiyasu, should Palace move on, is seen as a possible option to play on the left side of the trio.

Tomiasu’s recent career has been plagued by knee problems and Palace are confident of the former. ArsenalHis male power, the club wants to be sure of his fitness.

After leaving the Gunners by mutual consent last season, Tomiyasu joined Ajax, where he made eight appearances for the Dutch side towards the end of the campaign.

Palace look to bolster their defensive options this summer with first-choice central defender Maxence Lacroix set to join Chelsea.

The Eagles have already made at least one offer for Augsburg centre-back Krislen Matsima, with talks continuing between the two clubs over a potential €30m (£25.7m) deal.

There is also interest in a potential loan deal for Palace Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong, but there is no indication yet that the Stamford Bridge club are ready to sanction the 20-year-old’s exit.

BBC Sport reported last week that Palace also have a strong interest in Brest centre-back Raphael Le Guen.
