Will the Catalan club ignore the deal?
Barcelona have begun to look seriously at alternatives to strengthen their attack line, given the ongoing failed negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a contract for Argentine striker Julián Alvarez, who remains the Catalan club’s number one target.
According to Spain’s Marca, coach Hansi Flick wants to settle his squad as quickly as possible, especially after the departure of Robert Lewandowski, and so he does not want to wait indefinitely to decide on Alvarez’s position, although Barcelona have not closed the door on completing the deal permanently.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had earlier confirmed that the club had made a very important offer to Atletico Madrid, stating that the offer would not be open indefinitely and that the club would have to make a decision on his future. Barcelona’s deadline appears to be nearing its end as Atletico continue to refuse to facilitate the player’s departure.
Atletico Madrid are awaiting the return of Alvarez to join training on August 10, although the club know the player wants to move to Barcelona, with the Argentine striker having told his club management last May of his desire to have a new experience with the Catalan side.
Faced with the difficulty of completing the deal, Barcelona began to explore a number of alternatives, the most prominent of which is Junior Krupp, the Bournemouth forward who is admired by the club’s management and coach Flick. However, the deal also seems complicated, considering that the English club considers the player unsellable, and his value reaches about 130 million euros.
Barcelona have also previously inquired about the status of Chelsea striker Joao Pedro, but signing him also looks difficult, especially given his contract with the London club until June 2033.
Although Barcelona have made waves with a number of alternatives, Alvarez remains a top target for the club, who are hoping the player’s pressure and his stated desire to move to the Camp Nou will sway him to switch his stance to Atletico Madrid.
