Germany is blocking America’s way to host the 2038 World Cup

Does FIFA agree?

Germany has officially announced its bid to host the 2038 World Cup, coinciding with increased talk of a possible joint bid with France over the past few days.

One of German football’s most prominent figures has confirmed the country’s desire to host the men’s World Cup in 2042, while keeping the door open to a bid in 2038 if FIFA agrees to more flexibility over the principle of continental rotation.

According to the website, Axel Hellmann, a member of the board of directors of the German Football Association, said:Miss Mercato“We want it very much and there is an initiative by the federation president Bernd Neuendorf and the German Football Association to bid for the 2042 edition and maybe even 2038. It will depend on FIFA regulations.”

But the main obstacle remains the existing regulations of FIFA. After the 2030 World Cup, which will be held in Morocco, Spain and Portugal with Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, and the 2034 World Cup, which was awarded to Saudi Arabia, the rotation principle theoretically makes it more likely that North America or Oceania will win the 2038 host.

With Australia being a member of the Asian Football Confederation, the US currently looks the favourite. However, Germany hopes that FIFA will amend this law, which will pave the way for a European bid, perhaps jointly with France.
