eBay pays $46M to journalists accused of shocking harassment campaign

eBay and three former executives agreed to pay about $56 million in a settlement a macabre campaign of cyberstalking and harassment which focuses on two journalists in 2019.

As we have done already writtenthe case involved the delivery of live cockroaches, a funeral wreath, a book about the death of a spouse, and a bloody pig’s skin to the home of a family that runs a website. There were also harassing messages sent via email and Twitter, as well as attempts to install a GPS tracking device on the victim’s car. Criminal cases led to the prosecution and imprisonment of former eBay employees.

The victims were Ina and David Steiner of Natick, Massachusetts, who run the news website EcommerceBytes. “David and I settled a lawsuit we filed in 2021 against eBay and its former management for the harassment and bullying campaign we endured in 2019 to stop reporting,” Ina Steiner said. he wrote on EcommerceBytes yesterday. “The outstanding human rights settlement includes $55.7 million in compensation and benefits.”
