Iran has launched a ‘sudden attack’ on US military forces in the Middle East, the US military announced

Iran has fired “several” ballistic missiles in an “attempted surprise attack” on U.S. forces in the Middle East, the U.S. military said.

The attack took place at 17:45 ADT (21:45 GMT) on Tuesday and all the missiles were “successfully intercepted”, US Central Command said, without specifying the location of the targets.

Tehran has yet to comment. The attack comes at a time when the war between the two countries has cooled, and is meant to bring negotiators back to the table.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that “very friendly negotiations” are underway with Iran, after the two sides did not exchange fire for a third day in a row.
