Commonwealth Games 2026: Gymnast Ruby Evans wins first gold for Wales

Evans made history by winning Wales’ first women’s artistic gymnastics Commonwealth Games gold.

“I couldn’t be happier,” she said.

“I couldn’t have done anything better on that floor and I know regardless of the result, I couldn’t have done anything better. I’m glad it was gold.”

Evans said she was angry when she went out to compete after being disappointed at an earlier performance in Glasgow.

“I did well on my first day here and got through to the semi-finals,” said the Cardiff teenager.

“That didn’t go to plan and it was a really stupid mistake, so I was really upset about that.

“So when I came out here I knew I had to do something for my country and that was the floor.”
